We need your further financial support to Father Bogadek!
Father Anthony Bogadek Caring Fund (ABC Fund)
Dear SLS brothers and friends,
Wishing a very happy 95th birthday to Father Anthony Bogadek, our biology teacher and an inspiring mentor who inspired curiosity, kindness, and purpose. Father Bogadek’s passion for teaching and lifelong dedication to education have left a lasting mark on so many of us. We are all honoured to having a true role model and shaping not just our minds, but our values.

Many of us still remember Father Anthony Bogadek who shaped our minds and hearts with patience, rigor, and a deep love for nature and learning. Now in his mid-90s, Father Bogadek continues to receive round‑the‑clock care guided by a group of alumni in the medical professions, ensuring his daily health, mobility, and dignity are well supported.
Over the past years, the Father Anthony Bogadek Caring Fund (ABC Fund) has been blessed by the generosity of the St. Louis family and friends, allowing consistent caregiving and medical support that truly honors a teacher who gave so much to generations of students.
The Executive Committee remains deeply grateful to our alma mater, the Salesians of Don Bosco, our retired teachers, and SLOBA for their steadfast help and coordination throughout this journey.
Please let us share a financial update as of 31 December 2025 for the ABC Fund:
-
total donations received since inception are HK$2,032,432.68 (including HK$358,585.19 from predecessor funds), with an available cash balance of HK$40,044.85.
-
Major expenses include hospital costs of HK$105,281.00 for Father’s August 2021 pacemaker implant (hospital and device only; surgery was graciously performed pro bono by former students) and ongoing full‑time and Sunday relief caregiver expenses.
-
Current monthly expenses are estimated at HK$25,000 – 30,000 for two Filipino caregivers and Sunday relief shifts, reflecting the level of support needed for Father’s daily wellbeing.
To sustain Father Bogadek’s care through 2026, the ABC Fund is setting a new fundraising target of HK$400,000. Reaching this goal will secure stable caregiving coverage and essential medical needs, allowing Father to continue receiving attentive, dignified support up to mid-2027.
With gratitude for teachers who shaped our lives and with special thanks to our alma mater and retired staff whose faithful example still inspires us, we humbly invite support for this round of the ABC Fund. Every contribution, large or small, directly sustains Father’s care, collective gifts from classes, small groups, or individual donors are equally appreciated and will make a tangible difference.
SLOBA will continue to assist in coordinating donations for the ABC Fund and serve as the point of contact for questions and offers of help. The Executive Committee remains available to provide updates and acknowledgements, and to facilitate class‑year outreach to broaden participation within the alumni community.
Please join us in showing our gratitude and love to Father Bogadek by making a donation to the ABC Fund. You can find the donation forms individual donation form and group donation form attached to this appeal letter. You can also contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions or suggestions, or if you would like to volunteer to visit or assist Father Bogadek.
May our shared gratitude become concrete support that keeps Father comfortable, safe, and lovingly accompanied in this chapter of his life.
With appreciation,
Executive Committee

Major Milestones of the Father Anthony Bogadek Caring Fund
-
Our Father Anthony Bogadek received a pacemaker implant operation in August 2021 and required extra medical care afterwards. Father Bogadek is already in his 90s and health condition is stable but slowly deteriorating.
-
Father Bogadek could no longer take care of himself and round-the-clock care is required. These necessary care services include: provide more frequent and smaller-portion food to increase daily food/drink intake and to build up appetite as well as regular daily exercises / outdoor movements (in wheelchair) to improve mobility. The overall medical care and health monitoring is under the guidance of a group of our fellow brothers in various medical professions (including physicians, physiotherapy, and occupational therapy).
-
To reciprocate to our alma mater and to express the heartfelt gratitude to our teacher, a group of St. Louis Old Boys (who graduated between 1968 - 1986) formed an Executive Committee in September 2021 to organise a campaign to siphon financial resources to support Father Bogadek’s daily caring and basic medical needs and also invited Father Matthew Chan as the spiritual adviser to the Executive Committee of the Father Anthony Bogadek Caring Fund (“ABC Fund”).
-
The first fund-raising campaign was launched in October 2021 which marked the beginning of the ABC Fund.
