Biology and Chemistry Scholarships Initiatives
Dear Aloysians,
The Work Group for the “Rev Fr Anthony Bogadek Biology Scholarship” (鮑嘉天神父生物學獎學金) and “Mr NG Kwok Hon Chemistry Scholarship” (吳國翰老師化學獎學金) would like to appeal to all fellow St. Louis School Old Boys to support the initiatives by your generous donations. Details of the scholarships are as given in the summary below.
We sincerely hope that by setting up the scholarships, St. Louis School students will be motivated to take the science subjects of physics, chemistry and biology in their S4, S5 and S6 classes and strive for their best performances in the HKDSE.
We strongly believe that dedicated teaching of science subjects and students’ devotion to them are the strengths of St. Louis School and that students will be well equipped to benefit from the fast-changing landscape of scientific research, and the development of artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies in our present age.
Your kind support of these initiatives will be greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Work Group for the Biology and Chemistry Scholarships Initiatives

Summary of Information
Background:
-
Achievements in physics, biology, and chemistry are traditionally the academic strengths of St. Louis School, with students performing in flying colours in the former School Certificate Examination and Matriculation Examination.
-
On 19 June 2024, the Rev Fr LEE Hei Lung Joseph Physics Scholarship (李海龍神父物理學獎學金) was officially inaugurated by Form 5 graduates of the Class of 1968 to commemorate our beloved teacher, the late Rev Fr Joseph Lee Hei Lung, for his contributions to refining, consolidating, and elevating the teaching of physics and other science subjects in the School in the 1960s.
-
Inspired by the Class of 1968 and encouraged by Dr Dominic Sinn (Head Boy 1968), a group of old boys followed their footsteps and proposed to the School to set up two more scholarships for the subjects of biology, in name of “Rev Fr Anthony Bogadek Biology Scholarship (鮑嘉天神父生物學獎學金)”, and chemistry, in the name of “Mr NG Kwok Hon Chemistry Scholarship (吳國翰老師化學獎學金).
-
Together, the three iconic and highly respected teachers inspired among St. Louis School students a fervent devotion in the pursuit of knowledge in science, substantiated by remarkable and solid academic achievements in the three subjects in the School Certificate and Matriculation Examinations, thereby establishing St. Louis School as a renowned secondary school in Hong Kong, spanning the 1960s to 1990s.
Purpose:
Setting up of the Biology and Chemistry Scholarships, in parallel with the Physics Scholarship, aims at raising the hitherto academic performance of St. Louis School students in the three science subjects, and instilling in them a strong motivation to excel in academic achievements in science by rewarding and recognizing the:
-

-
In-school performance – S4 & S5
-
Public examination (HKDSE) achievement – S6
