In Memory of Mr. Ken KWAN Chi-Ming (關志明)
1969 - 2022
Mr. Ken Kwan Chi-Ming, our dearest Co-opt committee member of St. Louis Old Boys' Association (SLOBA) and a 1986 F.5 graduate passed away in the morning of Monday, 12th September 2022. SLOBA is profoundly saddened by the passing of Ken and conveys our deepest condolences to his family.
Ken was first involved in SLOBA activities in 2016, when many of our old boys were caring for the health conditions of the Late Brother Edward Kowala. These old boys extended their caring to other priests in the St. Louis School Rectory and as the result, the Clergymen Care Team was formed and with Ken’s professional knowledge and training as an occupational therapist, Ken became one of the key persons driving this team providing health care support to all aging priests in the rectory, and the team paid regular visits to the rectory on weekends. Ken officially became a Co-opt committee member in 2018.
Ken was fondly remembered shaving late Brother Edward Kowala after Brother Edward exhaled his last breath and before his body was being transferred to the Canossa Hospital mortuary.
Ken was often seen at the Old Boys football matches on weekends and often played as goal keeper. His love to football dated back in his school days and he was a member of the St. Louis School Football Team in the mid-1980s.
It is unfortunate that Ken was diagnosed with cancer in 2018, and he was a strong fighter to his illness. Ken has devoted himself with a strong mind and actively committed to serve our old boys and alma mater even when he was receiving chemotherapy treatment. Ken has spent significant time and effort in providing a close personal nursing care to Father Bogadek and he often visited Father Bogadek during weekday afternoons. Ken also played a pivotal role in the provision of a good living environment to Father Bogedek from the hiring of personal helpers, and provided training and monitoring, the fitting of furniture, fixtures and equipment, and often escorting Father Bogadek to attend hospital and clinic checkup appointments. Ken helped Father Newbery by conducting many personal physiotherapy sessions with him. Ken also supported other Fathers and Brothers in the rectory when in needs.
On top of Ken’s devotion to our priests, Ken also shared his professional experience at the Brothers’ Talk session in 2021 with fellow St. Louis School students. Ken cared for everyone around him and often helped those in needs discreetly.
Ken is a loving Father to his son and acted as an important role model to him. It is a blessing that his son has recently graduated from St. Louis School and now become one of the St. Louis Old Boys. Ken often involved his son to his volunteer activities.
We express our heartfelt appreciation to Ken for his selfless devotion and his love to our Salesian Fathers and our alma mater. The whole SLOBA Council will miss this beloved Big Brother. As quoted from 2 Timothy 4:7-8:”I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”
SLOBA Council has been in touch with Ken’s family for caring and possible assistance in this difficult time. May Ken rest in eternal peace with our Heavenly Father.
