Warm Table Dinner on 5 Sep (Thu) - The Start of My Journey to Conservation - Saint Louis School by Dr. Michael Lau

Dear Aloysians,

It is our honor to have Dr. Michael Lau Wai Neng (Class 1980) as our guest speaker.  Dr. Lau is a reptile scientist and re-joined WWF-Hong Kong in 2011 as the Senior Head of Programme, Local Biodiversity and Regional Wetlands.

Dr. Lau started his scientist career when he was studying in St. Louis. He was among the first volunteers to help Fr Bogadek set up the terrarium room to study local reptiles and amphibians.  Michael and Fr Bogadek published a book on Hong Kong reptiles and amphibians.

Since graduating from St. Louis, Michael has continued his research on a series of topics that are important for Hong Kong to preserve the local biodiversity (e.g., Hong Kong Biodiversity Survey), and has led various conservation programmes with WWF and other organisations.

Over the years, Michael has been a quiet contributor to the School.  Most recently, Dr. Lau, in person, conducted a conservation tour in Mai Po for a group of SLS primary students to appreciate the nature outside the concrete forest of Hong Kong.

Please do join the Warm Table Dinner, where Michael will share with us the start of his journey to conservation.  I hope that you will enjoy it as well as the company of Aloysians and the hospitality of Club Lusitano.

All the best

Francis
